As chairman of the
Ways and Means Committee, the first African American to reach that post, Congressman Charles Rangel presides over tax revenue legislation and commands oversight authority over the major issues of the day – economic policy, international trade, welfare, Social Security, Medicare, and health care. He serves as the vice chairman for the Joint Committee on Taxation.


CAUCUSES

Congressman Rangel is a founding member of the Congressional Black Caucus.

As the current longest-serving Congressional member from New York, he is dean of the New York State Congressional Delegation.

He was a founding member of the Out-of-Iraq Caucus.
