  2. Program Solicitation in Climate Process and Modeling

The National Science Foundation (NSF) is providing support to speed the development of global coupled climate models. The Climate Process Modeling Team (CPT) concept aims to bring together theoreticians, field observationalists, process modelers and large modeling centers to reduce uncertainties in climate models.

A key goal of Astrobiology is to elucidate the drivers and effects of ecosystem change on Earth. Providing accurate models of our planet’s climate can help astrobiologists understand how climate change will shape the future of life on Earth. For information and proposal deadlines, visit the NSF at: http://www.nsf.gov/pubs/2009/nsf09568/nsf09568.htm?govDel=USNSF_25

  3. Research Opportunities in Petrology and Geochemistry

The Petrology and Geochemistry Program at the National Science Foundation (NSF) is accepting proposals for research projects that address the formation and evolution of the Earth. In particular, projects that study petrological and geochemical characteristics of materials in the crust, mantle and core of our planet are of interest. The program is particularly interested in multidisciplinary projects that include the development of analytical tools that could be useful in the broader research community.

Understading the formation and evolution of Earth is essential in determining how habitable planets form around distant stars. Knowledge of the Earth’s history is...

  4. NAI Announces 2008 Director's Discretionary Fund Awards

The NASA Astrobiology Institute is pleased to announce the selection of 18 proposals for support through the 2008 NAI Director’s Discretionary Fund. These awards allocate more than $1.4M toward strategic investments that advance the science of astrobiology, demonstrate impact to NASA’s space flight programs or its broader science activities, and/or contribute to NASA’s role as a federal R&D agency.

  5. Funding and Programs

In addition to funding its teams through 5-year Cooperative Agreements, the NASA Astrobiology Institute offers a variety of other funding opportunities to NAI members and the astrobiology community. These additional opportunities provide the ability to flexibly fund strategic initiatives, conferences and workshops, student scholarships, focus group activities, postdoctoral fellowships, and a minority institution research program. For additional information contact Dr. Edward Goolish at (650)604-1961 (Edward.M.Goolish@nasa.gov).
