JUSTICE DEPARTMENT AND CITY OF LOS ANGELES AGREE ON THE APPOINTMENT
OF MICHAEL CHERKASKY AS PRIMARY MONITOR IN THE LOS ANGELES POLICE DEPARTMENT PATTERN OR PRACTICE
WASHINGTON, D.C. Today, the Justice Department and the City of Los Angeles
agreed to jointly recommend that the District Court approve Kroll Associates as the monitor of the settlement.
In November 2000, the Justice Department and the City agreed to settle a pattern or practice investigation of misconduct in the Los Angeles Police Department. The settlement calls for the Justice Department and the City of Los Angeles to jointly agree on the appointment of a monitor.
The parties will request that U.S. District Judge Gary Allan Fees approve the selection of the monitoring team on Monday, May 21, 2001. The monitor will report quarterly to the federal court on the City of Los Angeles' compliance with the requirements of the consent decree.
