Interplanetary Network Director John McNamee holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the University of Florida, and a master's degree and Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from the University of Texas in Austin. Joining JPL in 1989 as navigation team chief for Magellan's Venus orbit insertion, he subsequently held diverse positions including Mars Pathfinder mission design manager/mission engineer, Mars '98 project manager, Europa Orbiter/X2000 Advanced Avionics Development project manager, deputy director for the Solar System Exploration Directorate, Deep Impact project manager, Dawn project manager and deputy director for the Mars Exploration Directorate.
