Knox City Plant Materials CenterEstablished 1965

Since 1965, the James E. "Bud" Smith Plant Materials Center in Knox City, Texas has provided plant solutions for central Texas and southern Oklahoma. The Center has released over 30 improved conservation plants including varieties of sideoats grama, Engelmann daisy, Texas swampmallow, bur oak, spike dropseed, Texas dropseed and eastern gamagrass. The Center develops technology for controlling wind and water erosion, restoring saline areas, improving wildlife habitat, stabilization of critically eroding areas, and improving range and pasture land.
