Russian Leaders to Visit Inland Northwest

Congressman George Nethercutt Press Release (   U.S.A.)
Posted on September 14, 1999

Spokane -- A total of nine congressmen, state legislators, city managers and mayors from the Russian Federation arrive in Spokane, tonight, as part of one of the largest visitation programs in United States History (see list attached).

"This is a great opportunity for members of Eastern Washington's agriculture community to make lasting contacts with some key decision makers of the Russian Federation," said Congressman George Nethercutt, the group's official sponsor. "With American family farmers facing difficult economic times, any effort to reach out to potential trading partners is an opportunity we cannot ignore. I am proud to sponsor this important event."

The visit is part of the Russian Leadership Program of the Library of Congress. The program is bringing some two-thousand Russian political and civic leaders to communities across the United States, this summer, so that they might become more familiar with American business, products, culture and society. The Washington State visit includes stops in Spokane, Reardan, Odessa, Grand Coulee, Pullman, and Moscow, Idaho, as well as Seattle and other points West (agenda attached).

MEDIA OPPORTUNITY: The delegation will be available for media interviews during a tour of the Fleming Farm in Reardan, Washington, beginning at 5:30pm on Wednesday, September 15th. (From Reardan, drive 1.5 miles North on Hwy 231, look for the Reardan Seed Company sign on the West side of the road and park near the white office building). Along with his Reardan farm, Fred Fleming operates a seed company and a construction company in Romania.
