Decision Making and Valuation for Environmental Policy (DMVEP) Workshop

NCER Staff Writer

WASHINGTON (NCER) - On March 21 - 22, 2002, the National Science Foundation (NSF) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sponsored the Decision Making and Valuation for Environmental Policy (DMVEP) Workshop in Washington, DC. The workshop attracted over 65 participants from the private sector, state and federal governments, nonprofit organizations, academia and Environment Canada. The audience heard and discussed research results from 17 researchers who were funded by EPA's Science to Achieve Results (STAR) program and NSF's Decision, Risk and Management Science Program competitions from 1997 through 2000. The workshop's three sessions focused on:

1) community environmental decision-making;
2) environmental decision-making for optimal land use; and
3) economic data informing environmental policy.

At each session, grant recipients presented and discussed their research results, followed by a discussion on the session's presentations. For additional information on the DMVEP Workshop and other NCER events, go to: http://es.epa.gov/ncer/events/.
