RELEASE: KINGSTON LEADS CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION IN SUPPORT OF FT. STEWART

May 26th, 2009 by Press Staff

Congressman Jack Kingston (R/GA-1) led Georgia’s U.S. House delegation in voicing their unified support for Fort Stewart to Defense Secretary Robert Gates.  In a letter to the Defense Secretary, the 13-member delegation cites Fort Stewart as, “the ideal location for the Army to grow,” and highlights the unprecedented community support for the post.

“The economic impact of Fort Stewart is not confined to the surrounding area – it spreads throughout the state,” Congressman Kingston said.  “The community and the Army have already invested heavily in preparation for the additional troops both on and off post.  In these economic times, it has been a bright spot but the recent uncertainty brought that to a halt.  In fighting to ensure the brigade comes our way and to get these projects back on track, I intend to leave no stone unturned.”

JACK ON THE FLOOR - Dim Energy Agenda

May 19th, 2009 by Legislative Staff

Jack spoke on the floor of the House regarding the Democrat’s dim energy agenda. As they prepare to institute a national energy tax, known as “Cap and Tax,” to combat global warming, they are shying away from the term and trying to rebrand it as global climate change. Jack, who rides his bike to work, noted that it was a balmy 49 degrees on his way to the Capitol this morning even though it’s the middle of May. He goes on to note that Democrats seek to exclude nuclear energy from America’s energy portfolio even though it’s safe enough for 4 in 5 households in France.

“Open and Transparent” Democrat Style

May 14th, 2009 by Press Staff

Speaker Pelosi promised the most “open and ethical” Congress when Democrats took control.  In POLITICO today, we’re given a look at the efforts taken to do that.

According to the article, top Democrats come close to threatening members if they vote for an ethics investigation into congressional ties to the PMA group.  One email, entitled “Don’t be a Flake” informed members that the, “leadership would have its eyes on any Democrats even thinking about defecting.”

Another, from Democrat Whip Jim Clyburn, “warned Democrats that they would suffer in 2010″ if the measure passed.

Obama’s Campaign Promise Puts Politics Over Security

May 13th, 2009 by Jack

Without a plan or any detail, then-candidate Obama promised to close the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay. The announcement was heralded by his left-wing base, France, and The View as a break from the evil Bush Administration and a return to America’s greatness.

Just two days after his inauguration, President Obama signed an executive order to close the detention facility and release or transfer the terrorists held there within one year. Again, trumpets roared and the left held hands and sang songs. The problem, however, is that in the more than 1,500 words contained in the executive order, President Obama failed to provide enough guidance for a reasonable plan.

Never a problem to him as the photo-op went well.

Cost of Cap and Tax

May 13th, 2009 by Legislative Staff

The Heritage Foundation is out today with a new analysis of the Democrats’ Cap and Tax proposal which would institute a national energy tax and kill jobs.  According to the analysis, the bill would:

  • Reduce aggregate gross domestic product (GDP) by $7.4 trillion,
  • Destroy 844,000 jobs on average, with peak years seeing unemployment rise by over 1,900,000 jobs,
  • Raise electricity rates 90 percent after adjusting for inflation,
  • Raise inflation-adjusted gasoline prices by 74 percent,
  • Raise residential natural gas prices by 55 percent,
  • Raise an average family’s annual energy bill by $1,500, and
  • Increase inflation-adjusted federal debt by 29 percent, or $33,400 additional federal debt per person, again after adjusting for inflation.

From the Wall Street Journal’s Martin Kozlowski - showing the effect of the Obama Administration’s proposed tax increases on working Americans.  The cartoon accompanies an article by Martin Feldstein which outlines how the $1.4 trillion in tax increases in the budget are similar to the tax increases of the 1930s which guided the nation into the Great Depression.  To read the article, click here.

Slow-ulus

May 13th, 2009 by Spokesblogger

Despite promising a “timely, targeted and temporary” economic “stimulus,” President Obama hasn’t been too quick on the draw in getting out his trillion-dollar special interest payback.

According to the New York Times, less than 6% of the “stimulus” has made its way out of the halls of bureaucracy in Washington - despite three months to “get money out the door.”  All that talk of shovel-ready projects?  Only $11 million (less than 1% of the amount to be distributed by the Department of Transportation) has made its way into the hands of states for transportation projects.
