Hall Kicks Off District Work Week Dedicated to Health Care Issues with Special Forum in Poughkeepsie at Marist College
May 18, 2007
CARMEL, NY – U.S. Rep. John Hall announced today that he is hosting a forum on universal health care next week at Marist College in Poughkeepsie.  Residents of the 19th Congressional District are invited to attend the public session, which will feature expert speakers on federal and state health care proposals and a discussion period to hear from local residents.

“The number of uninsured children and adults continues to rise nationwide,” said Hall. “Here in the Hudson Valley, we face a range of issues including the lack of access to affordable, high quality health care for thousands of residents, the cost of health care insurance to small businesses and other employers, and government support for local hospitals. I want to hear what kinds of reforms the people of my district care about most as we work to make affordable health care available to all.”

The forum is scheduled for 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm Tuesday, May 29, in the Student Center’s Performing Arts Room at Marist College, 3399 North Road, Poughkeepsie.

Speakers will include:  Len Rodberg, Chair of the Urban Studies program at Queens College and a member of Physicians for National Health Care, who will discuss federal legislation for a national single-payer health program; Mark Hannay, director of the Metro New York Health Care for All Campaign, who will describe and compare a variety of approaches to national health care reform; and a representative from the New Health Care Education project, a partnership between 1199/SEIU and the Greater New York Hospital Association.
