Card Check
Recently introduced legislation would eliminate secret ballots in the workplace. It’s called the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA). The nicknamed “card check” legislation would allow unions to be created as soon as a simple majority of workers have publicly signed authorization cards. This means a union could be created even if a business owner or a significant number of the workers were not aware an organizing drive was underway.
The legislation is also concerning because it imposes binding arbitration if a contract isn’t reached within 120 days. That allows federal bureaucrats to come to the table and gives organized labor an incentive to delay contract negotiations.
I want to give you more information about the consequences of the "card check" legislation. As always, please feel free to contact me about this or any other issue before Congress.
