DOE Releases Request For Information, Seeking Public Input on Wind Energy Workshops

February 27, 2009

The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has issued a Request For Information (RFI) to gain public input on the proceedings of the 20% Wind Energy by 2030 Workshop and the proceedings of the U.S. Wind Manufacturing Workshop.

In May 2008, DOE released a report, 20% Wind Energy by 2030, outlining a scenario in which the United States can reach over 300 gigawatts (GW) of installed wind capacity by 2030. DOE has hosted two workshops to build on the recommendations of the report. DOE held the U.S. Wind Manufacturing Workshop on August 27-28, 2008, to discuss needs for strengthening the U.S. wind manufacturing sector in order to reach 300 GW of installed wind by 2030. On October 6-7, 2008, DOE held the 20% Wind Energy by 2030 Workshop to discuss possible research and development (R&D) technology areas and analytical pathways to achieve the 20% wind energy by 2030.

DOE invites comments and suggestions on all key topics, findings, themes, and suggestions found in the Proceedings of the subject workshops. Input is especially encouraged on possible analytical and R&D pathways which could contribute to the achievement of the 20% Wind by 2030 scenario. This RFI does not constitute a request for specific project proposals. The information being sought under this RFI is intended to assist DOE in further assessing barriers to the 20% Wind Energy by 2030 scenario.

The information collected may be used for internal DOE planning and decision-making to align future activities under the Wind & Hydropower Technologies Program with the Administration's goals for increased use of renewable energy and the creation of domestic jobs.

DOE will not reimburse costs associated with preparing any documents for this RFI and there is no guarantee that a funding opportunity announcement will be issued subsequent to this RFI.
