  2. Giving Bones a Break

NASA-funded researchers have made an important discovery regarding the loss of bone that astronauts experience while in space. Astronauts suffer dramatic bone loss when living in microgravity, a phenomenon that could have detrimental effects on long-duration missions to the moon, Mars and beyond. However, by simulating the effects of microgravity on Earth, researchers have discovered a way to prevent bone loss in a specific region of the hip. The study could help to keep future astronauts healthy as human explorers continue to travel beyond our planet.
