Alabama Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification Categories

(2) Forest Pest Control. This category includes commercial applicators using or supervising the use of restricted use pesticides in forests, forest nurseries, and forest seed-producing areas.

(3) Ornamental and Turf Pest Control. This category includes commercial applicators using or supervising the use of restricted use pesticides to control pests in the maintenance and production of ornamental trees, shrubs, flowers and turf.

(5) Aquatic Pest Control. This category includes commercial applicators using or supervising the use of any restricted use pesticide purposefully applied to standing or running water, excluding applicators engaged in public health related activities in subrule (8) of this rule.

(6) Right-of-Way Pest Control. This category includes commercial applicators using or supervising the use of any restricted use pesticides in the maintenance of public roads, electric power lines, pipelines, railway rights-of-way or other similar areas.

(7) Industrial, Institutional, Structural, and Health-Related Pest Control. Individuals to be certified in this category must successfully complete the core phase. They must attend a training program and pass a written examination covering, but not limited to, the following areas: biology, identification and control of common household pests, control of vertebrate pests, control of wood destroying organisms, biology and control of termites, biology and control of stored product pests, and fumigation procedures.

  1. Industrial, Institutional and Household Pest Control. This category includes certified commercial applicators using or supervising the use pesticides in, on, or around food-handling establishments, human dwellings, institutions such as schools and hospitals, industrial establishments, including warehouses and grain elevators, other structures and adjacent areas, public or private, for the protection of stored, processed, or manufactured products.
  2. Wood-Destroying Organisms Pest Control. This category includes certified commercial applicators who apply measures for the purpose of preventing, controlling or eradicating termites, various wood borers, fungi, and/or other wood-destroying organisms within, under and on structures, including adjacent outside areas.
  3. Fumigation Pest Control. This category includes certified commercial applicators who apply fumigants to one or more rooms in a structure or to the entire structure at the desired concentration and for the necessary length of time to control and eradicate pest such as insects, rodents, other vermin and/or organisms.

(8) Public Health Pest Control. This category includes State, Federal or other governmental employees using or supervising the use of restricted use pesticides in public health programs for the management and control of pests having medical and public health importance.

(10) Demonstration and Research Pest Control. This category includes individuals who demonstrate to the public the proper use and techniques of application of restricted use pesticides or supervise such demonstrations.

  1. Demonstration. Applicators certified in this category shall be persons who demonstrate the proper use and techniques of pesticide application, or supervise such demonstration, as part of their employment including both commercial and educational demonstrations.
  2. Research. Applicators certified in this category shall be persons who perform or engage in both commercial educational and basic research on pesticides and their uses.

(11) Aerial applicator will be a subcategory under all above categories where appropriate.
