Technical Areas of Expertise
NSTD consists of two major mission areas that provide a diverse set of activities and capabilities. The Fuels, Isotopes, and Nuclear Materials (FINM) and the Nuclear Modeling, Design, and Safety (NMDS) define the two mission areas in NSTD.
Their activities span from the borders of basic science to the development and application of experimental and computational nuclear-related technologies to the design, implementation, and operation of novel engineering processes and systems. The division also provides key technical support in nonnuclear applications such as environmental management, nanotechnology, high-temperature heat transfer, hydrogen production, chemical combustion, and robotic operations.
