The jazz arrangement at the University of Idaho encompasses the Lionel Hampton School of Music, the International Jazz Collections, and the Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival. The School of Music seeks to prepare elementary, secondary, and college teachers of music, and to train professional musicians. The International Jazz Collections houses the complete materials of Lionel Hampton, Leonard Feather, and others. The Lionel Hampton International Jazz Festival is a 41-year-old educational and performance event attracting more than 10,000 college, high school, junior high and elementary school jazz students annually. Now under the Artistic Direction of John Clayton, thousands of guests and spectators join the students for four days of outstanding music and education each February, where each person can also enjoy the International Jazz Collections exhibit and School of Music faculty and students.
