Infant Mortality Awareness 5K Run/Walk

Date & Time: 9/24/2009, 11:00 - 2:30pm
Location: NIH Campus, Bethesda, MD
Description: The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development (NICHD), is pleased to announce its first “5K Run/Walk” to bring more public awareness to infant mortality. Due in part to medical research, public health and social services supported by the Department of Health & Human Services, infant mortality has declined considerably during the past three decades. Despite these successes, African Americans have two times the infant mortality rate and American Indian/Alaska Natives have 1.4 times the rate as non-Hispanic whites. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is committed to supporting research to reduce and ultimately eliminate the overall infant mortality rate, and the disparate rates that impact communities of color.
