ACOUSALLE

ACOUSALLE logo.

Allows an early design of various indoor space proportions (offices, classrooms, small auditoriums, industrial halls etc.) in accordance with the established rules of geometrical, wave and statistical acoustics. It also analyses the users' individual proposals through a built-in expert system.

A data bank of the acoustic properties of building materials allows quick calculation of the reverberation time of the planned or existing acoustic spaces based on Sabine's formula. Finally, ACOUSALLE can very easily verify the compliance of a given project with the Swiss acoustics regulations (SIA 181).

Keywords

acoustics, codes and standards

Validation/Testing

N/A

Expertise Required

Basic PC computer literacy; understanding of basic acoustic concepts.

Users

First distributed in late 1994.

Audience

Architects, acoustic engineers and students.

Input

For early design: : space allocation, space typology, together with at least one of the following data: floor area (stall floor and circle if any), number of seats (stall and circle if any), ceiling height, width, or length of space.

For reverberation time: space allocation, volume, and surface area and corresponding material (almost 100 of generic materials) and audience.

Output

For early design: Either returns a report of the proposed input (if all have been define) or returns value for the missing data to provide the best acoustic in the space.

For reverberation time: returns a graphical display and numerical values of the reverberation time for different audience proportion and the limits according to the space allocation.

Computer Platform

PC-compatible, 386 or higher, Windows 3.1 or higher.

Programming Language

Visual Basic

Strengths

Fast input entry and calculation; graphic display of analysis results.

Weaknesses

Simplified calculation method rather dedicated for shoebox shape.
