Lamborn Votes No on So-Called Stimulus Bill

CNN: Stimulus Bill

Washington

"This spending bill is a sorry substitute for a comprehensive economic stimulus plan to help American families and businesses. My constituents are looking to Congress for real solutions. Instead, the Democrats have delivered them a big government spending spree.

“This is the single most expensive bill ever enacted in the history of our country, indeed, in the history of the world. It calls for a massive expansion of the federal government’s reach into the day-to-day life of virtually every citizen, business and civic organization in the nation. Unfortunately, Congressional leaders scheduled a snap vote on a 1,434-page bill that no one had a chance to read in its entirety, much less digest and deliberate.

“Under the ‘Making Work Pay’ tax credit at the center of this plan, a worker will get back $1.10-a-day in taxes, not even enough to ride the bus one-way to work. At the same time, the bill will burden the average family with $9,400 in additional debt.

“The bottom line is this -- the Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill will actually weaken our nation's long-term economic growth.”  -- Congressman Doug Lamborn (CO-05)
