Pomona- Congresswoman Grace F. Napolitano (D-Norwalk) was pleased to present the following federal appropriations today in the 38th District:
Cal Poly Pomona $1,000,000 for a new research-grade supersonic wind tunnel, research grade water tunnel and an aerospace computer simulation system to be used to research fluid dynamics and heat transfer in aerospace engineering. Cal Poly Pomona is in the process of upgrading and modernizing its Aerospace Engineering laboratory facilities due to enrollment in the Aerospace Engineering Department doubling over the last seven years.
During the check presentation, Congresswoman Napolitano addressed approximately 25 Aerospace and Engineering Students and spoke about her ongoing commitment and “support of programs that are helpful to student research.
“I understand the need to continue investing on aerospace and engineering programs that give our students the upper edge on training, so they can remain competitive in today’s global market,” said Napolitano.
Pomona Police Department $100,000 for the City of Pomona’s Interagency Communications Interoperability System to assist police, fire, public works, and medical emergency response teams. Congresswoman Napolitano presented the check to Mayor-Elect Norma Torres and Pomona Police Chief James Lewis at City Hall.
“Consider this money another installment, since I will continue working on issues that affect the City,” Napolitano told Chief Lewis. “I am excited to work with Mayor-Elect Norma Torres in bringing more funding to the City of Pomona programs critical to the community.”
Montebello Police Department $100,000 to replace and upgrade the Montebello Police Dept.’s Computer Aided Dispatch and Records Management System (CAD/RMS) to enable the department to handle the processing of digital images, upgrade crime analysis functions, enhance the ability to generate detailed reports and eliminate other shortcomings that deter the Police Department from serving the City. The check was presented to Montebello Police Chief Couso Vasquez at the Montebello Civic Center.
Pico Rivera $200,000 for the 2,000 square feet expansion and renovation of the existing space at the City of Pico Rivera’s Senior Center to accommodate the needs of a growing and more active senior population. The Center serves more than 6,500 patrons each month. The check was presented to Pico Rivera City Manager Chuck Fuentes at the Pico Rivera Senior Center.
