Dodd Statement on $4 Million in H1N1/Seasonal Flu Grant Funding Available to Connecticut
July 10, 2009

Senator Chris Dodd (D-CT), senior member of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, released the following statement today after the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Kathleen Sebelius, announced the availability of $4,033,652 in grants to help Connecticut prepare for the 2009 novel H1N1 flu virus and the fall flu season.  The grants were funded by the recent supplemental appropriations bill that was passed by Congress and signed into law by President Barack Obama on June 24, 2009.

“I’m pleased the Administration is providing these resources to Connecticut to help combat the outbreak of the H1N1 virus, which has already claimed the lives of six Connecticut residents,” said Dodd. “This funding will provide the resources our state needs to combat this ongoing outbreak and be prepared for another flu season”

In April, Dodd called for additional resources for the state of Connecticut to respond to the H1N1 outbreak at a hearing he chaired of the HELP Committee with Dr. Richard Besser of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Dr. Anthony Fauci from the National Institutes.
