Policies / Regulations - Introduction

This section contains the policies, statutes and regulations under which ORI operates. The Federal Policies page provides the Federal Research Misconduct Policy and the policies and regulations federal agencies have adopted to implement that policy.

The PHS Policies page includes the suspended PHS Policy on Instruction in the Responsible Conduct of Research and the redefined mission of ORI.  The ORI Policies page features model policies and procedures for responding to allegations of research misconduct, a working definition of plagiarism, responses to issues arising from inquiries and investigations, guidelines for responding to retaliation complaints from complainants, and a link to the legal concerns page.

The statute and regulation section covers the statutory authority for ORI, the handling of research misconduct allegations, debarments, the protection of whistleblowers employed by the Federal government, and Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and Privacy Act requests.
