“A short while ago, the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office issued its analysis of the Treasury Department’s proposal relating to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.  Estimating the fiscal impact of this proposal is complex and involves considerable uncertainty – and not everyone will necessarily agree with every aspect of CBO’s analysis.  While I have not yet had time to review the CBO analysis in the short time since it was issued, I think CBO is performing its important institutional role by providing in a timely manner its best professional and independent assessment of the fiscal impact of a very important proposal currently under consideration by the Congress.”
