Fryzel Calls for Unity, Commitment at African American Credit Union Coalition Meeting
August 10, 2009, Alexandria, VA -- National Credit Union
Administration Chairman Michael E. Fryzel praised African American Credit Unions
Friday during his address at the African American Credit Union Coalition’s
(AACUC) 11th Annual Conference in Las Vegas, NV.
Chairman Fryzel emphasized the Coalition’s strength of character, purpose and
commitment along with their ability to overcome obstacles.
"You have been through tough times. You have seen adversity. You have faced
challenges financial and otherwise. And you have overcome these obstacles each
time. I have a great deal of faith that you will continue to do so,” stated
Chairman Fryzel. He also noted the unique and important role that African
American-oriented credit unions play in expanding credit union service to all
eligible members.
The African American Credit Union Coalition places a priority
on increasing the global credit union movement’s strength by emphasizing the
important role of credit union volunteers and professionals of African-American
and African descent.
The National Credit Union Administration is the independent
federal agency that regulates charters and supervises federal credit unions.
NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. government, also
operates and manages the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, insuring
the deposits of nearly 90 million account holders in all federal credit unions
and the majority of state-chartered credit unions.
