Key Literacy Issues
The Institute seeks to strengthen reading and literacy across the lifespan, including during middle school and high school. Research plays a central role in the Institute’s work, as directed by the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (as amended). The Institute:
- Identifies scientifically based research findings that help answer essential questions about literacy development during adolescence; and
- Communicates the findings to educators in plain language in publications such as What Content-Area Teachers Should Know About Adolescent Literacy
