Vulnerability Summary for CVE-2009-0745

Original release date:02/27/2009
Last revised:05/12/2009
Source: US-CERT/NIST

Overview

The ext4_group_add function in fs/ext4/resize.c in the Linux kernel 2.6.27 before 2.6.27.19 and 2.6.28 before 2.6.28.7 does not properly initialize the group descriptor during a resize (aka resize2fs) operation, which might allow local users to cause a denial of service (OOPS) by arranging for crafted values to be present in available memory.

Impact

CVSS Severity (version 2.0):
CVSS v2 Base Score:4.9 (MEDIUM) (AV:L/AC:L/Au:N/C:N/I:N/A:C) (legend)
Impact Subscore: 6.9
Exploitability Subscore: 3.9
CVSS Version 2 Metrics:
Access Vector: Locally exploitable
Access Complexity: Low
Authentication: Not required to exploit
Impact Type:Allows disruption of serviceUnknown
