My company has worked for two years in the market development of DuPont’s new PTT fabric trade named Sorona(r). This newly available yarn marketed under the technical class of PET is misleading to our customers. Polyester is a low-rated fabric from the standpoint of price and quality with no special new characteristics as are available from this technical innovation by Dupont. These new characteristics include: 37% reduction in the use of petrochemicals by substituting natural oils through fermentation, softer hand feel, better “fabric memory” returning to 100% of its former shape after 50% stretch, natural chlorine resistance and better retention of dyed colors. At a time when “green” products, saving petroleum, are sought by customers it is a disservice to them to call this product polyester which virtually precludes their interest in this new product with its advantages to them and our economy. Please create a separate classification for this product so marketing can provide a clear understanding for customers..
