The continued use and access of social security numbers by licensed private detectives for legitimate purposes is vital. These identifiers are used to locate deadbeat parents, individuals owing monies, individuals involved in tort suits, and others for the purpose of litigation or potential litigation. Without identifiers to confirm information on the correct individual, errors can be made. It can also slow up the already overloaded court system. It can also result in rising costs for insurance companies. Maryland private detectives must submit to an FBI and State criminal background check. There are also sanctions (both civil and criminal) for inappropriate use of this type of information. For these reasons, we ask that you consider your list of appropriate and legitimate uses to be fashioned after the Drivers Privacy Protection Act. Thank you. I can be reached at
