As a former Federal Agent and current, licensed private investigator, I wish to advise you that access to SSNs is vital to the work we do to assist the public and support law enforcement. On a case-by-case basis, we utilize SSNs for such vital tasks as enforcing child support, locating missing heirs and witnesses and tracking down fraud and identity theft perpetrators.
