To Whom It May Concern: Licensed private investigators utilize databases to help locate individuals for many important purposes including finding witnesses, lost heirs, parents who are delinquent in support payments, pension beneficiaries and others. The data is also used to assist identity theft victims and to help find persons who have committed fraud. The social security number is critical because it is a unique identifier that helps separate the thousands of persons sharing the same name. It is particulary vital to have access to this data when trying to locate women who take their husbands' names upon marriage.
