This is probably the same reasoning as from other investigators, But, law enforcement does not have the time or tthe inclination to investigate most ID thefts. As investigators we need Social Security Numbers to complete these investigations. Also. law enforcement does not chase down deadbeat dads. But we do using Social Security Numbers. I agree that they should not be sold openly on the internet, but should be available to those of us who are willing to register and declare that they are only being used legally
