Having been in the law enforcement and private security fields of work over 45 years, I was always astounded at how we were so strickly regulated in our use of Social Security numbers, but the Medical Profession is not. I have during my 63 years used many personal doctors for my own needs. I have persistently been forced by these Doctors to give them my Social Security number or be refused medical services. They always claim it will be used only in my files as a "personal identifier". They even have it on their new patient forms. I filled out one last week. They are refusing to treat me until I provide my Social Security number on their form. They have my date of birth, my group insurance number, my address, wife's name, etc. They even wanted me to give her number too. My wife has been through this on numerous occasions too. Our group insurance carrier states it it not needed by the Doctors, but they still insist on it. I would like to personally know what are "my individual rights on this issue". The Social Security card states, "Not to be used for identification". That Government Agency has told me the same thing. I want to know what your Agency has to say on this matter. I would like documentation on what "My Rights as an American Citizen actually are"? Or, do we still have any rights? Seems like "big business" is the only people who have any rights. Where can I get an answer. I am putting off medical treatment because Doctors want my Social Security number. Isn't that really what this project should be about ? Protecting our rights from unauthorized predators like Doctors, who are robbing us blind, and stealing our identities to sell to database companies and marketing companies.
