Congress promised the American people in 1935 that their social security numbers would never be used for identification purposes. It was to be used solely for social security purposes. Obviously, this promise has been broken. We need to roll back usage of SS# for non-SS usages, not expand it. Please do the honorable thing and increase the restrictions on it's use, distribution and inclusion in databases, not relax it. This message is not meant to advocate for or against a National ID, but rather to advocate for restoring citizens' faith in their government by asking that the government honor promises they made to the American people no matter how old those promises are.
