FTC: Made In The USA Comments Concerning Susan Frederico--P894219

July 23, 1997

Secretary Donald Clark
Federal Trade Commission
6th St. & Pennsylvania Ave., NW
Room 172
Washington, DC 10580

Dear Sir:

I am writing to you in protest to the FTC's consideration of changing the requirements on the labeling of "MADE IN THE USA” products, in order to allow them to carry this label if a "substantial" portion of the product was USA made.

As parents, teachers, leaders, etc., Americans pride themselves in truth and honesty, and teach our children and the next generation that to tell a half-truth or lie by omission is as dishonest as an out- and-out lie. Well, to me, who has been a citizen of these United States for fifty three years, the acceptance of this change in our labeling laws would be nothing more than a lie.

Products that carry the "Made in the USA” label should mean exactly what it says,

MADE IN THE USA

Very Sincerely,

Susan Frederico
