Vice Chairman Hood Speaks About
Leadership and Vision

March 7, 2007, Washington, D.C. - National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) Vice Chairman Rodney E. Hood described his vision and leadership agenda to a crowd of over 3,000 attendees during last week’s Governmental Affairs Conference, hosted by the Credit Union National Association,(CUNA) in Washington D.C. His address, titled, "America's Credit Union Industry: Making an Impact by Financing the Future,” the Vice Chairman provided self-assessment of his 2006 performance, and looked ahead to challenges and opportunities in 2007.

Vice Chairman Hood commended credit unions for their dedication and commitment during 2006, and highlighted several accomplishments for the credit union community, including: continued resiliency against bank trade group attacks; enhanced consumer centric vision of the industry; increased outreach efforts to stakeholders; increased awareness of risk mitigation issues; and the results from the Data Collection Project.

As the Vice Chairman concluded his remarks, he emphasized the importance of the credit union community working together and openly communicating with NCUA in order to continue making a positive impact across America, “In the days ahead, I will continue to garner your feedback as I seek to ensure the safety and soundness of America’s federally-insured credit unions,” stated Hood. “Communication requires more than just listening, it requires action, so my commitment is to be adaptable enough to make improvements based upon what I hear from you. Together, let’s examine and discuss the important issues. Let’s strive to exert some thoughtful, constructive influence on the external issues that must be addressed. Let’s understand all the forces at work, and all the policy levers at our disposal – and then use them wisely so that credit unions will continue to make an impact.”

The National Credit Union Administration is the federal agency that charters and supervises federal credit unions. NCUA, with the backing of the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government, operates the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund. NCUA is supported by credit unions, not federal tax dollars.
