Office of the General Counsel

The Office of the General Counsel is part of the Office of the Secretary.  As principal legal officer and advisor to the Secretary, the General Counsel serves as the chief legal officer for the Department, oversees the work of approximately 90 lawyers, analysts, and administrative professionals working within the Office of the General Counsel, and works closely with the Chief Counsel's Office for each modal agency in the Department.  For an Organizational Chart of the Office of the General Counsel and contact information.   • NEW   The latest edition of  the DOT Litigation News  (in Adobe pdf  format) is now available.  Several times each year the Office of the Assistant General Counsel for Litigation publishes the DOT Litigation News, which summarizes new cases involving the Department, recent decisions, and significant developments in pending cases.
     
  • NEW   The Department of Transportation announces substantial revisions to its regulatory information website.  In an effort to provide more information to those interested in its rules and to help them more effectively participate in the rulemaking process, the Department  has dramatically improved its website, regs.dot.gov, adding a significant amount of information on the process and regulatory requirements.  DOT believes that public participation enhances its regulatory decision-making.
     
  • NEW    Air Carrier Accessibility FAQs
     
  • NEW       We have updated the electronic version of the Title 49 Compilation to include the latest statutory amendments, such as for setting international rates for airlines.  You can find it in the OGC eLibrary at http://www.dot.gov/ost/ogc/e-library.html.
