Vulnerability Summary for CVE-2007-2618

Original release date:05/11/2007
Last revised:09/05/2008
Source: US-CERT/NIST

Overview

CRLF injection vulnerability in index.php in Drake CMS 0.4.0 allows remote attackers to inject arbitrary HTTP headers and conduct HTTP response splitting attacks via CRLF sequences in the lang parameter. NOTE: Drake CMS has only a beta version available, and the vendor has previously stated "We do not consider security reports valid until the first official release of Drake CMS."

Impact

CVSS Severity (version 2.0):
CVSS v2 Base Score:5.1 (MEDIUM) (AV:N/AC:H/Au:N/C:P/I:P/A:P) (legend)
Impact Subscore: 6.4
Exploitability Subscore: 4.9
CVSS Version 2 Metrics:
Access Vector: Network exploitable; Victim must voluntarily interact with attack mechanism
Access Complexity: High
Authentication: Not required to exploit
Impact Type:Provides unauthorized access, Allows partial confidentiality, integrity, and availability violation; Allows unauthorized disclosure of information; Allows disruption of service

In order to make the exploit work, the attacker would have to craft a webpage (hosted on the same domain as the Drake CMS website) and have the Drake CMS user make a post from that page. Successful exploitation requires that "register_globals" is enabled.

Vendor Statments (disclaimer)

Official Statement from Drake CMS (05/16/2007)
An apposite mailing list (drakecms-security@lists.sourceforge.net) has been created to discuss all publicly disclosed security reports (mostly from National Vulnerability Database and Security Focus); for the valid security reports temporary solutions will be offered even before the official patch release. Specific patches will be released for all critical vulnerabilities (available through the automatic update feature). This vulnerability has been fixed in the upcoming Drake CMS v0.4.1 Beta, previous versions’ users can update their software directly from the administrative backend. Cumulative patches will also be available in the project downloads area. References to Advisories, Solutions, and Tools -> http://drakecms.sourceforge.net/ (official vendor website) will soon contain news about the security vulnerabilities and the released patches.
