Chemistry (CHE)

Submission Windows: Unsolicited CHE Proposals

Division of Chemistry Proposal Submission Windows for Unsolicited Proposals

The Division of Chemistry has two proposal submission windows for unsolicited proposals (including RUI and GOALI proposals):

  • July 1 - July 31
  • November 1 - November 30

Principal Investigators (PIs) may submit their proposal in either window.  However, PIs should consider submitting their proposal in July if the proposal is bio-oriented or in November if it is materials research-oriented in order to enhance co-funding opportunities.

If one of the dates falls on a weekend or holiday, the due date becomes the next business day.

Realignment of CHE Programs

The NSF Division of Chemistry (CHE) is excited to announce a realignment of our programmatic structure.  Please read our Dear Colleague Letter at http://www.nsf.gov/publications/pub_summ.jsp?ods_key=nsf09048.

The realignment has established eight new programs, which will accept proposals starting in the July 2009 submission window.  The new programs are:

  • Chemical Catalysis
  • Chemical Measurement and Imaging
  • Chemical Structure, Dynamics and Mechanisms
  • Chemical Synthesis
  • Chemistry of Life Processes
  • Environmental Chemical Sciences
  • Macromolecular, Supramolecular and Nanochemistry
  • Theory, Models and Computational Methods

For additional information on the realignment, please refer to the documents below:

  1. A "Realignment of the Division of Chemistry Programs" brochure, available at http://www.nsf.gov/mps/che/realign/brochure.pdf
  2. A decision tree illuminating "Finding a Home for an Unsolicited Proposal," available at http://www.nsf.gov/mps/che/realign/decisiontree.pdf
