SES Briefings for New Executives

OPM, in conjunction with the White House, conducts periodic briefings for new SES members. The sessions incorporate lectures, discussions, question-and-answer periods, and opportunities for networking. Topics covered include Administration goals and initiatives, practical advice on how to work effectively with sectors outside the Executive Branch, how the SES works, attributes of effective leaders, etc. The briefings end with a swearing-in ceremony and a reception.

The briefings generally are announced four to six weeks ahead of time, and fill up quickly. Check this site frequently to learn the date of the next session.

Invitation to the SES Briefing

September 16-17, 2009, for career SES or Equivalent

Use SES Briefing online link to register for these 2 days

Dear Colleague,

I am pleased to invite you to the second of the Obama Administration's series of senior briefings for new Senior Executive Service (SES) members or equivalent to learn about the President's agenda, and his vision and values, and to discuss the unique challenges you face with your new responsibilities. As a new member of the SES, you will play a key role in making President Obama's agenda of change a reality.

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) conducts these programs with the White House. The next SES Briefing will be held September 16-17, 2009.

These sessions for new SES members provide an overview of executive branch priorities and a unique opportunity to interact with a broad range of policymakers. You may have heard from your colleagues about our previous briefings, which included presentations from Cabinet Secretaries and top advisors to the President – including the Vice President. Though not all officials are available for each briefing, you will be provided with insights and information on domestic and foreign policy issues from the Administration's most knowledgeable individuals.

The programs are held at the Ronald Reagan Building and International Trade Center. A swearing-in ceremony and reception in your honor conclude the two-day program.

To accept my invitation, please register by August 31, 2009. In the past, these programs have filled prior to the deadline, so register online right away. Enclosed are program and registration information.

Sincerely,

John Berry
Director, Office of Personnel Management
