Founded in 1967, the International Writing Program (IWP) at the University of Iowa was the first international writers’ residency at a university, and it remains unique. The IWP is designed to introduce talented individuals to American life; to involve them in a vibrant university culture; and to provide them with time and a congenial setting for the production of literary work. More than 1,100 established and emerging writers from over 120 countries have completed residencies in the program. (Iowa City, IA)
