Public comments on the initial recommendations for a definition of "meaningful use" of electronic health records are being sought by an HHS advisory committee. Medicare and Medicaid incentive payments are authorized under the Recovery Act to eligible providers (such as doctors and hospitals) who demonstrate "meaningful use" of certified records.
