What's New @ FCIC
Hey, things are really happening here at FCIC, and occasionally we remember to update this page to tell you about it. So take a look below.

August 26 is Women's Equality Day. The 19th amendment which was ratified on August 26, 1920, gave women the right to vote. There have been milestones reached throughout the centuries for women's rights. The first endowed school for girls was founded by Emma Hart Willard in 1821. In 1878 a Woman Suffrage Amendment was introduced in Congress, but didn't pass both houses until 1919. In 1903 the Women's Trade Union League of New York was formed. Women have made many strides since then, but there still are many problems that need to be addressed such as work-family balance, economic equality and violence against women.

August 11, 2009A man pumping gas while talking to a woman.

It's summer and many people are out on the road taking long or short trips and vacations. It can be fun but it also uses a lot of gas. If you want to know what the gas prices are in your state and other states too, than visit: www.fueleconomy.gov. You'll also find information on gas mileage tips, tax incentives, and more.

August 5, 2009A man sitting at a bench in the airport.

Many people enjoy travel and they use many modes of transportation. Whether they travel by car, bus, train, or plane, they all want to arrive safe and sound. USA.gov has lots of information on traveling safety for air, domestic and international travel. Visit USA.gov's Travel Safety page for great travel tips.

July 31, 2009A girl surfboarding; her father is in the background.

Summer is a time for all kinds of sports and water sports are very popular. Boating, swimming, surfing - all great fun but the dangers are all too real - especially for children. To learn more, go to Medline Plus' Recreational Water Safety page.
