August 26 is Women's Equality Day. The 19th amendment which was ratified on August 26, 1920, gave women the right to vote.
There have been milestones reached throughout the centuries for women's rights. The first endowed school for girls was founded
by Emma Hart Willard in 1821. In 1878 a Woman Suffrage Amendment was introduced in Congress, but didn't pass both houses until
1919. In 1903 the Women's Trade Union League of New York was formed. Women have made many strides since then, but there still
are many problems that need to be addressed such as work-family balance, economic equality and violence against women.
