Workshop on the Science of Science Policy, November 2008
The 11th Annual Meeting of the Heads of Research Councils Working Group was held at the National Science Foundation in Arlington, VA on November 3 and 4, 2008. Fourteen presenters from nine countries informed the group about the status of research in their countries from the national funding-agency perspective. In previous years, all attendees hailed from G8 nations, but this year saw a broadening of participation with the inclusion of a representative from China. Nine countries were present in all: Canada, China, the European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the United Kingdom, and the hosting nation, the United States. NSF organized the meeting as a workshop, charging presenters to focus on what approaches are being taken to evaluate programs, what types of data are being used in the evaluations, and what steps are being taken to advance the science of evaluation in their countries.
