Ground Water: Cycle II Activities (2001 - 2011) Trend Network for Ground Water The primary goal of the Trend Networks is to systematically assess long-term trends in the chemical and physical quality of the Nation's ground water and to relate observed trends and changes to probable causes.  The San Joaquin - Tulare Basins NAWQA will resample wells from the Cycle I major aquifer study (formerly known as study-unit survey) and 3 agricultural land-use studies on a decadal schedule. A subset will be sampled biennially to determine the temporal pattern of trend within the decadal sampling period. A subset of the wells sampled biennially, will be sampled seasonally to determine the adequacy of the decadal and biennial sampling. Status Assessment for Source Water Source Water Quality Assessments (SWQAs) is a new status activity for Cycle II. The first year (FY03) of this component involved sampling source water from 15 Community Water Supply (CWS) wells in the Modesto urban area and analyzing the water samples for a comprehensive list of constituents. These included major inorganics, organic carbon, trace elements, pesticides, VOCs, isotopes for age dating, and selected microbes. Based on these results, activities in the second year (FY04) may involve sampling finished water in addition to raw source water. See map above for location of wells. |
