Objectives: Conduct research on fire ecology and behavior on Mauna Kea Develop fuel models and maps to aid with developing management strategies for upland dry habitat plant communities in Hawai`i |
| Accomplishments: Project started in FY06 Plant community maps for Mauna Kea are currently being revised Climate data for the project area are being compiled and new stations established as needed |
Significance: Fire poses a major threat to the native mesic and xeric ecosystems of the Hawaiian Islands Alien species have altered the fire regime in most Hawaiian ecosystems |
