Anti-Trust Regulations

The following are some of the most important Anti-Trust Regulations that companies should be aware of when doing business with India.

Competition Act, 2002
This act replaces the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Act, 1969 and was signed into law on 13 January 2003, though the Central Government has only put into effect certain provisions of the new Act. This act prohibits anti-competitive agreements, abuse of dominant position, and regulates corporate combinations, while establishing the powers, functions and duties of the Competition Commission of India, a quasi-judicial regulatory body.

Consumer Protection Act, 1986
Any entity providing goods or services must avoid unfair or restrictive trade practices as defined by the Act. The act also establishes councils, among other mechanisms, to settle consumer disputes.
