Susan Marone’s hours are filled with job hunting, although not for herself.
Marone virtually built the Resume Referral and Outplacement Services office when she saw a need for a centralized place for staffers who needed work, or someone to work with.
“It was an evolution,” Marone said. “I’m constantly thinking about ways to improve the program and anticipate the needs of an office before they even know what they need.”
No day is ever the same, the recipient of the Personalized Solutions Award said. She could be on the phone with a Member’s office or counseling a staffer who is looking to move up or even out.
“I have connections both inside and outside of the Hill,” Marone said, noting her decades of experience working for presidents, ambassadors, cabinet members and campaigns, among other positions.
She’s gets her greatest satisfaction from helping House employees achieve their goals.
“Sometimes I feel like I’m a school teacher,” she said. “I’m starting to understand what it means to see your students do well.”
Soon Marone will leave the helm of her successful venture and go half way across the world for a new adventure. She’s retiring this year and moving to Montepulciano, Italy, a place she “fell in love with.”
