Research, and Communications

Washington, DC--Dr. Anne-Imelda M. Radice, Director of the Institute of Museum and Library Services, announced today that Mamie Bittner will be promoted to a new position, Deputy Director for Policy, Planning, Research, and Communications. Ms. Bittner, who will continue to be responsible for legislative and public affairs, will now assume responsibility for the agency’s research and evaluation functions as well.

“As the agency grows, we have a new opportunity to strategically align activities in support of the Institute’s goals,” said Dr. Radice. “Mamie Bittner is uniquely qualified to lead the policy and planning functions of the Institute. Her significant experience representing the Institute on Capitol Hill, within the Administration, to the media, and to the museum and library communities, and her expert strategic advice and management skills will serve the agency well. I am delighted to announce this promotion.”

“This is an outstanding opportunity,” said Ms. Bittner. “Our nation’s success in meeting the ever-increasing public need for lifelong learning and civic engagement rests in part on the vitality of its libraries and museums. It is a great honor to work at the Institute and support the agency’s essential role in developing and disseminating the policy analysis, good ideas, and data our nation needs to have first-rate library and museum services. I am delighted to have Anne’s confidence and to be a part of her leadership team.”
