Technical Assistance Conference Calls Aug 21, Sept 7, and Sept 12 to Help Applicants Prepare Conservation Project Support Proposals

IMLS Conservation Project Support Application and Guidelines Available on IMLS Web site
(Grant Application Deadline: October 1, 2006)

Washington, DC—To help museums throughout the country learn more about how the Conservation Project Support (CPS) program can help care for collections, the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) has scheduled several technical assistance conference calls. Application guidelines are available on the IMLS website. The application deadline is October 1, 2006.

The recent IMLS funded report, A Public Trust at Risk, The Heritage Health Index Report on the State of America’s Collections, highlighted the dire need for conservation and collections care in American museums, and IMLS encourages all museums to consider submitting an application to improve the care of collections. Applications may be submitted for such projects as surveys, training, research, treatment, and environmental improvements with a maximum award amount of $150,000. Museums submitting projects that have a broader impact on the field of conservation may apply as an Impact Project, with funding up to $250,000.

IMLS has scheduled four technical assistance audio-conference calls to give prospective applicants an opportunity to talk with program officers about the CPS grant program. The agency has used this audio-conference format for other IMLS grant programs with great success and anticipates this will be equally beneficial. The first call will be open to prospective applicants from across the country and answer general questions such as, “Is CPS right for me?” Participants will need the conference number and title below to participate:

Title: National CPS Audio Conference
Date: Monday, August 21
Time: 3:00-4:00 pm ET
Conference telephone number: (800) 946-0706

In cooperation with the regional museum associations, three regional audio-conference calls are scheduled for applicants who are further along in the application process and who have more specific questions for program officers. Participants will need the conference numbers and titles below to participate:

Title: CPS for Mid Atlantic and New England
(for museums in the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont)
Date: Thursday, September 7
Time: 10:00-11:00 am ET
Conference telephone number: (800) 946-0706

Title: CPS for Western and Mountain Plains
(for museums in the following states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming)
Date: Thursday, September 7
Time: 3:00-4:00 pm ET
Conference telephone number: (800) 967-7185

Title: CPS for Midwest and Southeast
(for museums in the following states: Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virgin Islands, Virginia, West Virginia, and Wisconsin)

Time: 2:00-3:00 pm ET
Conference telephone number: (800) 238-9007
