Detailed Forecast Discussion |
Today, an upper-level ridge of high pressure over the Upper Midwest will reduce vertical mixing and dispersion. Furthermore, weak surface high pressure over the region will lead to light winds, causing pollutants to build up. These conditions will cause AQI levels to be mid- to high-Moderate in the Twin Cities. Tomorrow is an Air Quality Advisory Day in the Twin Cities. Moderate south-southeasterly winds ahead of low pressure developing over the central Plains will transport moisture and additional pollutants into the region, leading to high-Moderate AQI levels.\n\nFriday and Saturday, moderate to strong southerly winds ahead of a low pressure system will bring a very warm, humid airmass into Minneapolis, enhancing particle formation and transporting some pollutants into the region. However, low regional pollutant carryover will keep AQI levels in the mid- to high-Moderate range on both days. Sunday, an approaching cold front will produce mostly cloudy skies, limiting ozone formation. However, moderate southerly winds in the Twin Cities will continue to transport moisture and particles into the region, keeping AQI levels Moderate. Monday, moderate west-northwesterly winds behind a departing cold front will disperse pollutants and lower AQI levels to Good. |
