Please listen to an online radio interview
with Anne-Imelda Radice, Ph.D., Director of the U.S. Institute
of Museum and Library Services on AARP’s PrimeTime
Radio at http://radioprimetime.org/radio.htm.
Mike Cuthbert, host of Prim eTime, veteran
radio personality, and knowledgeable conservation layman,
conducted the 24-minute interview that focuses on Radice’s
interest in conservation and IMLS’s Connecting to
Collections: A Call to Action, a multi-year national initiative
to raise public awareness and inspire action to care for
library and museum collections throughout the United States.
In the lively interview, Radice describes
experiences that shaped her commitment to conservation.
She talks about being a teen volunteer who helped care
for art damaged during the devastating 1966 flood in Florence,
Italy, about her experience as the first director of the
National Museum of Women in the Arts (1983-1989), and
her tenure as Architectural Historian and Curator of the
Office of the Architect of the U.S. Capitol (1976 to 1981).
She also spells out differences in the terms ‘preservation,’
‘conservation,’ and ‘restoration’
and describes how the field of conservation has changed
over time.
